The
first OOF Restaurant - Parrot Club - was established in 1996
by Emilio Figueroa and Gigi Zafero Figueroa - and it quickly became a San Juan favorite.
After having
met and worked together at the El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo,
they reunited when they found the great Old San Juan building
with 20 foot high beamed ceilings and a palm filled brick courtyard.
The team designed the entire concept, from the colorful dining
room decor and open kitchen plan down to the last menu detail.
They knew that they wanted a place which reflected the warm
and sexy Latino-Carribean feeling. A place for friends to gather
for
authentic tropical cocktails, hot Latino music and the flavors of the island.
They called it Nuevo Latino cuisine, evolving more
from a combination of Mexican heritage, classic culinary training and
Puerto Rican experiences.
The
Parrot Club has become a San Juan tradition with the locals;
and visitors to Puerto Rico consistently enjoy the Parrot Club
experience. Every creation from
the kitchen and the bar is done with the tropical Latino concept
in mind, from the passion fruit daquiris and the bacalaitos
(cod fritters) with spicy crab salad to the dulce de leche
cheesecake.
In 2000, the team opened a new concept, Dragonfly, which features Latin-Asian
cuisine, just across the street from the Parrot Club. Once again Emilio and Gigi
designed everything from A to Z, and the result is a red hot, intimate
lounge feeling
room, with wonderful food flavor combinations that are meant to be shared. In
2004, Dragonfly expanded to include Dragonfly Too, a Latin-Asian
sushi bar, with another dining area and bar and a sexy Oriental
style lounge.
In 2002 came Aguaviva, next door to Dragonfly. Aguaviva
specializes in seaside latino cuisine, complete with a fresh
oyster and ceviche bar facing the long open kitchen. The water
theme reflects in the sparkling turquoise and white decor, and
the extraordinary seafood menu.
In 2005, the OOF team opened Fogata in the Old San Juan Sheraton
Hotel. A Latino bar and grill, Fogata features steaks, chops and
seafood with all the Latino style fixins. The theme is fire and
the vibrant colors and glowing red bar are not to be missed.
OOF Inc Restaurants continue to evolve and to be passionate
about the culinary future of Puerto Rico. With over 150
dedicated employees, our company strives to continue turning the
food and restaurant concepts we dream of into a wonderful story
that continues to get better each year.
